THE LORD’S DAY

THE LORD’S DAY

September 18, 2016(Revelation 22:17) “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”

Dear Ones Who Desire the Return of Our LORD,

(Revelation 22:12) “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.”

Those who are deeply in love with the Lord Jesus Christ, long for the return of their Saviour. Most of us know what it is to have a loved one missing from our company for an extended period of time. Our hearts ache for the blessed fellowship to be returned. Revelation 22:17 is in reality a prayer for the return of Christ. As we approach the time of the return of Jesus to establish His kingdom, our hunger for the presence of our LORD’S return grows greater and greater.

Believers are to turn their eyes to Heaven and cry out to God and petitioning the King of Glory to fulfil His promise to come back for His redeemed. In this last chapter of the entire Bible our LORD made this promise to us when HE said, “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.”  Revelation 22:12. John echoed the declaration of Christ as we see in Revelation, “H e which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” Do you see the pathos of John when he cried out, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” John cried out with a hearty AMEN to Christ’s promise. One thing you may not know is that this promise of the Lord Jesus Christ originated in the Old Testament. To study the Old Testament is not a grievous undertaking for me, but rather it is a delightsome undertaking.  Please consider Isaiah 62:11, “Behold, the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.” Long before Christ was born to Mary, Christ promised HE would return to the earth again to fulfill all the promises made concerning the Second Coming of Christ! These promises are the believers’ great hope. “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:27.

What is the substance of this prayer? The cry is for the return of Christ to the earth again, Since the first day of Christ’s absence from the earth, believers have been longing for HIS return. Believers of all the ages have cried out for the promised return, and we join them with a longing in our hearts for HIS bodily presence.

Sing this good old Gospel Hymn with me!

It may be at morn, when the day is awaking,
When sunlight through darkness and shadow is breaking
That Jesus will come in the fullness of glory
To receive from the world His own.

Refrain

O Lord Jesus, how long, how long
Ere we shout the glad song,
Christ returneth! Hallelujah!

Hallelujah! Amen! Hallelujah! Amen!

(2 Timothy 4:7-8) “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”

THE LORD’S DAY

September 11, 2016

(Genesis 6:17-18) “And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee.”

Dear Ones Who Believe The Promises Of GOD,

(Genesis 7:1) “And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.”

It is well to mention certain facts about the truth of the Gospel of the grace of God. It is obvious that no man has ever been saved by his good works. This is evidently true of all the saints of Old Testament, such as Adam and Eve and their son Abel. So Noah was found to be in the grace of God, even before the building of the ark. To rest upon the promises of the LORD is all that is required of sinners in both Testaments. Consider Genesis 6:8, “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.” God alone can save a lost soul. This is a very important fact of the Gospel. Also, “I know that I am preaching to the choir,”  but I do not apologize for doing so, for there are many who are confusing truth with error and this is a very serious matter.

I love to preach about the grace of our LORD for it is that grace which has brought this blasphemer to be saved and to be placed on the road to heaven. Ah, my journey has gone on for more than fifty years and I testify to you, that my salvation is one hundred percent the work of the LORD. God makes this very clear in the New Testament as you will see in 2 Timothy 3:16-18. “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” This is one of the strongest passages decaling the entire Bible, Old and New Testaments to be fit for the sinner’s way to be born into the family of God. Salvation is, and has been, yes, and will be for all eternity the way to the Heavenly Father. John 14:6.

Genesis 7:1, “And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.” Here is our LORD’S invitation for all who would desire to be saved by God’s gracious work. To Noah, the LORD said, “Come thou and all thy house into the ark.” Then in Genesis 7:7 the Word of our LORD says,  “And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.” The Bible teaches us that God does not coerce any sinner to go into the ark. Noah and his family freely chose to go in at God’s invitation. It is to be noted that those who did not go into the ark did so because they chose not to accept God’s gracious invitation. The first time I considered God’s free and unspeakable gift I chose to reject it. I praise the LORD that HE sent message after message until HIS grace won our over my works and I freely received the gift of God.

 Philip Doddridge wrote the following poem;

Grace! ‘tis a charming sound,

Harmonius to the ear to the ear;

Heaven with the echo shall resound,

And all the earth shall hear.

Saved by grace alone!

This is all my plead:

Jesus died for all mankind,

And Jesus died for me.

THE LORD’S DAY

September 4, 2016

(Philippians 4:19) “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Dear Ones Who Are Blessed With The Riches Of God’s Glory,

(Psalm 23:5) “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”

When you read Philippians 4:19 you may want to ask “In what manner does the LORD supply the needs of His people?” The answer to this good question is found in the verse, for our LORD desires that you know the truth. God says that HE supplies your need “according to HIS riches in glory…” It would be wonderful if the LORD had said, “… according to HIS riches on this earth!” But our LORD is infinitely better than all the riches of earth, yea, is immeasurably greater for HE tells us that HIS giving of gifts for HIS people is in harmony with HIS riches in glory!

Take a few minutes to study that word “according”. The manner in which our LORD gives  supplies to meet our needs is like musical harmony to our spiritual hearing. There is a musical instrument called an “accordion”, so named because if played by a skilled musician makes very pleasant harmony. If a man who had billions of dollars at his disposal were to come to you and offer to pay some of your bills which has overwhelmed you, you might expect him to give you’re a large sum of his funds to help you out. But, if he were to give you a single dollar bill you would be sorely disappointed. Why would you be disappointed? Because the gift was not in harmony with his great wealth.

Our LORD is not the least bit stingy. He always answers the cry of HIS people by more than meeting the bare amount of their need. See the prayer of the Apostle Paul and you will get a little taste of the graciousness of our GOD to meet our needs,  “For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” Ephesians 3:14-21.

As our GOD, full of grace, is so generous to HIS needy people, so such people ought to be seen  delighting in helping those who are of the household of faith. Each one of us needs to allow the Holy Ghost to do HIS blessed work of changing us into the image of Christ. (See 2 Corinthians 3:17-18) 2 Corinthians 9:17 says, “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” Notice that the LORD uses the word, “according”, again. That is no accident. I trust my God to make your cup to overflow, both in the LORD’S blessing upon your life and to cheer your giving in the likeness of our gracious LORD. AMEN!

THE LORD’S DAY

August 21, 2016

(2 Kings 4:1-7) “Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen. And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil. Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few. And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full. So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out. And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.”

Dear Ones Who Feel The Need For Our LORD To Meet Your Needs,

(Philippians 4:19) “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Every one of the redeemed who dwell upon the earth have needs that at times threaten to overwhelm us. Our needs grow exponentially as we grow older, day by day.  We need to follow the example of the prophet’s widow, who owed much and had little with which to clear her debts. Remember she was under threat of having her children sold to satisfy her debt. Her situation seemed hopeless until Elisha came on the scene. He gave the poor woman instructions that would remedy her dilemma. Elisha told her to get every empty vessel she had and add to that all the empty vessels her neighbors could lend her.

Next, she was to prepare the empty vessels to receive oil. She shut the door behind herself and she began to take her little bit of oil and empty it into the vessels she had gathered. The oil continued to flow until all the vessels were filled to the rim. This largess provided enough money to pay all her debts with some left over for the future. I just love to read such wonderful stories in the Bible. They truly encourage my faith in my LORD. It is my prayer that likewise you will be encouraged in your times of need and distress.

Why don’t you gather all your needs together like the widow did with the empty vessels and see how the LORD is going to work in your behalf. Sight unseen I can tell you about some of your great and distressing needs that are about to go over you like a flood. There are needs for your body and your soul. You have needs for yourselves and needs for your families. On top of that you have needs for the here and now as well as for the future. You have need for time and needs for eternity. You have earthly needs and you have heavenly needs.

In fact you have needs, the number of which, is greater than the sands of the sea. “And when I looked, behold, an hand was sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book was therein; And he spread it before me; and it was written within and without: and there was written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe.” Ezekiel 2:9-10. If all of our needs were to be written in a book, even a book that has writing on the fronts and backs of all the pages, that book would be much larger than the Library of Congress!

My friend, do not despair as you survey the monstrous store of all your needs. I say, “Do Not fret, for each need is one more opportunity to see God display His mighty power to set you free from that terrible burden. I have a close friend that is facing a cancerous situation that is rapidly consuming his body. Yet, I never hear him complain. He is facing certain death, but he is not overwhelmed by the prospects. He sees his wife mourn for her husband. His ministry suffers because his health is deteriorating, but he is not without hope. My friend surveys all the empty bottles he has but he takes comfort from the fact that our LORD can miraculously fill his every need for the oil is not stayed, but ever flowing to the glory of our gracious LORD. It is my prayer that many will rejoice this LORD’S DAY in remembrance that all of God’s people serve the LORD and our days are in the LORD’S mighty hands. Lift up your voices and sing our Saviour’s praise.

Samuel Davies wrote the following,

Great God of Wonders! All Thy ways

Are matchless, God-like, and divine;

But the fair glories of Thy grace

More God-like and unrivaled shine,

More God-like and unrivaled shine.

Who is a pard’ning God like Thee?

Or who has grace so rich and free?

Or who has grace so rich and free?

THE LORD’S DAY

July 31, 2016

(1 Thessalonians 5:25) “Brethren, pray for us.”

Dear Ones Who Pray Often,

(Ephesians 3:14-21) “For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”

Anyone who has been saved a year or more should not need to be admonished to pray often. Paul has told us to “Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17. It is well for us to sense the need for earnest prayer. This last week I sent out our monthly prayer letter and I asked those who pray for us to read Ephesians 3:14-21, for this is a tremendous revelation given to us to know the value of God inspired prayer. While this is a relatively long passage and I have not room for an in depth study I do want to point out a few things which has encouraged me in my prayer ministry.

The first thing I see is the attitude of Paul’s praying, for he wrote, “For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ …” I know godly men and women who cannot get down on their knees to pray. While they have physical limitations they bow the knees of their hearts before their Lord and Saviour in deep reverence towards their Lord. True prayer begins with honest humility. For many years now my wife and I join our hearts in prayer before we rest our bodies. When Janet had one of her knees replaced that ended her time of bowing her literal knees before our God.  Her prayers remain as humble as they ever have been. Enough said about the attitude of the believer’s body as they pray.

This LORD’S DAY I want to direct your attention to the scope (or the power of God to answer your prayers) when Paul writes, “… grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man …” Have you ever allowed our LORD to give you understanding of that word “according?” I am sure most of you are familiar with a musical instrument called the “accordion”. A skilled accordion player can play beautiful harmony. God can grant to you the answer to your prayers that are in harmony to His riches in glory. This one fact alone is like the honey that is sucked from the ROCK. “He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock.” Deuteronomy 32:13. If you were to live on this earth for a thousand years or more you would have only touched the hem of HIS garment concerning Ephesians 3:16.

Ephesians 3:20 continues dealing with the revelation of the power of God. Try to wrap your spiritual arms around the following, “Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think according to the power that worketh in us.” Unfold the great promises which our LORD gives unto His redeemed and do this by starting at the end and work yourself to the beginning. This is what I mean, we start with the power that works in us. This is the power of our omnipotent God! Power that has no limits! Then our LORD tells us that He will exceed anything we ask or even think! But taking another step backwards  that God give us above what we ask or think. Have you ever taken note of this wonderful fact? For example, you ask our Lord to save a certain sinner and the Lord saves that soul. But the Lord is not done for that sinner now saved has led his family to Christ. Our Lord delights to multiply our requests.

The next step backwards tells us that our LORD often sets no boundaries in His answering of the prayers of His people. How timidly did Abraham plead for the souls of Sodom and the cities of the plains. But our Lord is not done yet for He delights to answer our prayers by exceeding His abundant provisions. As our Lord delights to so over-answer our prayers so we should take great delight in presenting our impossible need to our Saviour Whose grace knows no end.

I am trusting my Lord to answer my prayers for you in harmony with Ephesians 3:20. This would make this LORD’S DAY the most blessed day you have ever had. May God richly bless you. Amen!

THE LORD’S DAY

July 24, 2016

(Matthew 13:31-32) “Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.”

Dear Ones Who Belong to the Kingdom of God,

(Matthew 13:33-35) “Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.”

These two parables deal directly with things that are small and our gracious LORD makes applications to believers. Before I go any further I must mention that I have seen literature which would eliminate most of the Gospels, including Matthew. I will not allow misguided teachers and preachers to steal a large portion of the Bible from me or from anybody else. I may write more on this matter at some late time.

But I want to mention that my LORD clearly led me to these parables for there is profit to our souls if we will but study them with hearts that strongly desires to know the will of God. The first parable illustrates a certain aspect of the Kingdom of God and that is God’s kingdom started out as a very insignificant seed of the mustard plant. But by the grace of our LORD that seed became a large tree that welcomed all manner of creatures to make their habitation in the branches of the mustard plant. This strongly alludes to the Great Commission which our LORD gave to HIS disciples at the end of Matthew’s Gospel. I have friends scattered throughout this world who have been sent forth by our LORD to preach the soul-saving Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Many sent ones have had great struggles as they labor to establish Christ-honoring churches throughout the world, even in areas where Satan has his strongholds. I know some laborers who have established fine Bible-believing churches, while others have had a ministry fraught with great opposition and often their ministries remain small yet they are faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ.

When the Jews returned from the 70 years of captivity, God worked it out that they had enough wherewithal to build a new Temple to replace the One Solomon had built and Babylon had destroyed. This all took place under the human leadership of Ezra. I want you to read the record of the dedication of this new Temple and the emotions that were displayed. The following is quoted from Ezra 3:1-13;

“And when the seventh month was come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem. Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and builded the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God. And they set the altar upon his bases; for fear was upon them because of the people of those countries: and they offered burnt offerings thereon unto the LORD, even burnt offerings morning and evening. They kept also the feast of tabernacles, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings by number, according to the custom, as the duty of every day required; And afterward offered the continual burnt offering, both of the new moons, and of all the set feasts of the LORD that were consecrated, and of every one that willingly offered a freewill offering unto the LORD. From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt offerings unto the LORD. But the foundation of the temple of the LORD was not yet laid. They gave money also unto the masons, and to the carpenters; and meat, and drink, and oil, unto them of Zidon, and to them of Tyre, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea of Joppa, according to the grant that they had of Cyrus king of Persia. Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerusalem; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to set forward the work of the house of the LORD. Then stood Jeshua with his sons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to set forward the workmen in the house of God: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brethren the Levites. And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the LORD, after the ordinance of David king of Israel. And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the LORD; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy: So that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people: for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off.”

Our LORD spoke directly to HIS people and admonished them not to despise the day of small things,   “For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.” Zechariah 4:10. The New Temple was completed by Zerubbabel by God’s GRACE, and our work will likewise be finished by God’s marvelous grace. AMEN.

Perhaps some of you worship with a small group of believers and your heart aches for better times which will glorify the Lord Jesus Christ. Know this, that our LORD is going to be honored in the midst of HIS people as every knee will bow before HIM and confess HIM as the only LORD and Saviour. How wonderful would it be is this LORD’S DAY we would hear the trumpets sound and the angels will give a shout and we would suddenly be standing in the midst of the saints of all the ages to rejoice in our LORD’S final victory. AMEN!

THE LORD’S DAY

July 17, 2016

(Matthew 13:24-30) “Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.”

Dear Ones Who Are the Good Seed Sown In Heaven’s Garden,

(Genesis 1:11-25) “And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the third day. And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”

According the Genesis 1:11 – 25, there is a divine law that is very strict, and that is that all life which the LORD created can only produce life after their kind. Apple trees cannot produce oranges, nor can a monkey produce a human being. This law is applicable for all of God’s creation.

This is also seen in the parable of the wheat and tares, as found in Matthew 13:24 through 30. The devil comes along and craftily sows tares in the field where the wheat has been sown.  The wheat seeds will produce only wheat plants, which when harvested will be ground into flour and made into bread to satisfy the hunger of men. On the other hand the tares which were sown by the devil, will only produce tares, which are useless for the good of men.

I have an illustration from my garden that I want you to see. One of my favorite vegetables in my garden is the butter bean of the pole variety. But I have a problem. Sometime many years ago, someone must have liked morning glories and they planted a number of morning glory seeds. Now, I want you to understand that I see a great deal of beauty in morning glories as they climb fences and even trees. But they are a nuisance in my vegetable garden.  My beans will germinate and begin to climb the strings I put in the garden for that purpose. Upon very careful inspection it will be seen that some of my butterbean plants are never going to give me my delicious beans, for they are not butterbeans but they are morning glories! I was fooled because the leaves of the morning glory is shaped very much like the leaves of the butterbeans. If I try to pull us the noxious weed I stand to lose some of my butterbeans.

I believe that in the case of the wheat and the tares, some might argue that because the tares look so much like wheat that we should pray that the tares will turn into wheat. But we know that will never happen for only tares will come from tares and only wheat can reproduce wheat, When the harvest time has come the angels will gather the tares together and burn them in a fire. The sheaves of wheat will be gathered and sent to the mill to be ground into delicious wheat flour from which we will get bread and buns, etc.

The question that needs to be asked is this, “Am I a part of the wheat of the Kingdom of Heaven or am I a tare, fitted for the flames of Hell? Only God knows the answer to that question, therefore I must flee to the LORD and cast myself upon His mercy, for He delights in mercy. “Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.” Micah 7:18. May you be found in the House of God this LORD’S DAY. Amen!

(Philippians 4:19) “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Dear Ones Trusting In The Promises Of God,

(James 1:16-18) “Do not err, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

Many years ago, during the time I was a student at a Bible College, I experienced some very hard times. I sought to find a promise from my LORD upon which I could hang my faith. It was not long before my gracious LORD gave me Philippians 4:19. What a wonderfully simple promise, just what I needed. I suspect there are a number of brethren who are reading this brief message on this LORD’S DAY, and you have reached the point of desperation, for your needs are great, and your resources are meager, your bank account is about empty, and your physical strength has nearly been exhausted. When Elijah’s resources were exhausted the LORD sent him to Zarephath, to a widow no less, and there Elijah found his need met, and more. Read 1 Kings 17:10 – 15.  “So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand. And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth. And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.”

I love how my LORD uses the stories of the Old Testament to illustrate HIS great TRUTH. Such is the story of Elijah and the widow of Zarephath. Philippians 4:19 is not complicated and hard to understand. I shall show you something which my LORD gave in when I was in despair. I am going to type out this verse and as I do, I will underline four words. “But my God shall supply all your need according to HIS riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” This verse begins with God and ends with the Son of God. And did you notice your need is in the middle of God the Father and God the Son? Furthermore, God will meet your need in harmony to HIS riches in glory! Have you ever taken an accounting of the riches of God in Glory? If you ever tried to do so I imagine you had to admit that it was beyond your ability to calculate the value of our LORD’S riches in glory. We must confess that our LORD will not come up short when your deliverance will come. If this is fact, than what are you fretting about?

I would encourage you to spend some time meditating upon with marvelous verse. It is the LORD’S DAY, a day of rejoicing. Your deliverance has come. “How good is the God we adore, our faithful unchangeable Friend, Whose love is as great as His power, and knows neither measure nor end.” Hallelujah!  AMEN!

I am yours in living union

With the LORD Jesus Christ,
